Job Summary

As a Medical Office Assistant at Owensboro Health, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our healthcare facilities. Your responsibilities will include scheduling appointments, collecting and recording vital signs, performing basic diagnostic procedures, and maintaining patient confidentiality. You will work closely with our healthcare team to provide exceptional patient care and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule and reschedule appointments and diagnostic testing using computerized scheduling programs.
  • Collect and record vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, and pulse.
  • Perform basic diagnostic procedures, such as taking blood samples and collecting specimens.
  • Monitor and communicate changes in patient condition to healthcare providers.
  • Document patient care given, including medications and treatments.
  • Maintain equipment and medical supplies, including reordering, stocking, cleaning, and troubleshooting.
  • Accept payments and co-pays from patients and reconcile cash receipts at the end of shifts.
  • Communicate effectively with insurance companies, external agencies, patients, physicians, and team members.
  • Arrange for hospital admissions as necessary.
  • Answer internal and external calls, taking requests for patient information and dispersing it according to facility policies and procedures.
  • Maintain examination areas, including cleaning and restocking supplies.
  • Perform patient registration, patient check-out, pre-certifications, pre-procedure instructions, and appointment confirmations.
  • Retrieve records as requested by authorized persons, ensuring that properly executed release of information forms are obtained when necessary.
  • File new and returned records according to established systems and policies, identifying and documenting missing records.
  • Enter information from various sources into computer databases, verifying data for accuracy and correcting errors as required.
  • Locate and prepare records for archival or destruction according to policies and procedures, initiating retrieval and return of archived records and following up on any delays or problems.
  • Assist with performing patient assessments and treatments under the supervision of a physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or nurse.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • No experience required.
  • ABR-OE credential from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) required within 120 days of obtaining 24 months of experience within the last 36 months in a healthcare facility under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider.
  • BLS certification as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 90 days of employment in this position.
