Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at Owensboro Health. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform quality control procedures to validate test results and record results accordingly.
  • Assist in delivering physician reports via phone and electronic distribution in a timely manner.
  • Respond to technical questions from units and physicians.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and monitoring of all equipment to ensure proper functioning and maintain related records.
  • Record instrument logs for repairs, replacements, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Maintain adequate supply inventories by rotating stock, checking expiration dates, and ordering replacement stock.
  • Perform venipuncture on patients of all age groups and other specimen collection using proper therapeutic skills according to procedures.
  • Assist supervisors in additional duties that support the lab's quality program.
  • Provide teaching and education to students and other personnel.
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree or higher in Science required upon hire OR Associate's degree or higher in a related field required upon hire.
  • A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • No experience required.
  • MLT - Certified Medical Laboratory Technician through American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required within 12 months of employment in this position OR MLT - Certified Medical Laboratory Technician through American Medical Technologists (AMT) required within 12 months of employment in this position.

  • Ability to meet requirements for High Complexity Testing Personnel per the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).
