Position Overview

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership abilities, exceptional customer service skills, and effective communication capabilities. A proven track record of collaborating with ownership to foster robust relationships, innovative thinking, high integrity, and strong management skills are essential for this role. This position requires full-time on-site presence.

This pivotal role will collaborate with both the Corporate Finance team and the Executive Team, addressing accounting and financial needs for each property, with the aim of enhancing profitability and protecting hotel assets.

Reporting directly to the President/CEO and Vice President, the Finance Director will oversee the accounting for development projects, assist with annual tax preparations, and engage in lender and investor reporting.

Additionally, this role will be crucial in cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with owners, investors, and external partners while leading and developing the Accounting/Finance team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a financial advisor, providing insights on the financial implications of business decisions across all management levels.
  • Ensure adherence to hotel and accounting policies, legal standards, and contractual commitments through effective internal controls and auditing procedures.
  • Facilitate training for accounting department staff in line with established objectives and policies.
  • Oversee Gross Receipts and Business Taxes, including preparation and filing of 1099-Misc forms.
  • Assist in the annual tax preparation for hotel and development entities.
  • Manage overall financial reporting for development entities.
  • Handle external reporting to lenders and investors on a quarterly basis.
  • Prepare ad-hoc financial reports as required.
  • Generate accurate and timely monthly financial statements, including accruals and account reconciliations.
  • Ensure the accuracy of sales, use, and occupancy taxes, addressing any discrepancies.
  • Prepare and review budgets, forecasts, and operating results.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Respond to inquiries from properties, vendors, and management, conducting necessary research to provide reliable information.
  • Manage the implementation and upkeep of accounting software systems.
  • Conduct periodic audits of budget items to compare theoretical versus actual expenses.
  • Continuously assess internal accounting processes for accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting with 4-6 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of hotel operations and accounting practices.
  • Able to identify potential challenges and develop proactive solutions.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, accrual accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and closing processes.
  • Accounting experience across multiple select service hotels.
  • Proficient in accounting software and spreadsheet applications.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage in constructive conversations.
  • Experience with hospitality accounting software is a plus.
