Key Responsibilities of the School Principal:

The Principal's primary role is to cultivate and oversee a skilled team of educators and support staff, providing guidance and resources to enhance their teaching effectiveness and professional development as they aim to create engaging, student-centered learning environments.

The Principal will manage assessments to evaluate students' academic performance, pinpoint areas needing improvement, and apply data-driven strategies to elevate learning outcomes.

Working closely with the charter's CEO, the Principal will strive to establish and maintain a results-oriented, joyful educational atmosphere that aids students in acquiring the skills necessary to pursue their aspirations.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Champion and support the implementation of the school's vision and guiding principles to foster a positive, achievement-oriented culture for students, educators, staff, and families.
  • Lead and manage a high-performing team of educators dedicated to promoting exceptional academic outcomes while nurturing a strong sense of personal accountability.
  • Collaborate with the CEO to recruit and select instructional and support personnel.
  • Provide tailored professional development for all instructional staff.
  • Oversee and assess instructional methods, offer professional development opportunities, and coach educators on effective teaching strategies.
  • Set priorities for professional development in partnership with the instructional leadership team.
  • Deliver leadership and professional development for staff in analyzing student data and planning/intervening/assessing for students across performance tiers, particularly those below grade level standards.
  • Assist educators in establishing personal annual goals while monitoring and supporting progress through classroom observations and the Delaware Teacher Growth and Support System.
  • Ensure regular communication between educators and parents, sharing assessment information and student data through student-led conferences, interim reports, and report cards.
  • Engage parents and other stakeholders in school activities to foster a community-centered approach to learning and development.
  • Support the CEO in ensuring effective collection and analysis of student performance data to identify struggling students, curriculum gaps, and address teacher quality issues.
  • Develop and execute a strategic plan to enhance the achievement of subgroups who do not meet proficiency or show adequate growth.
  • Manage various administrative functions, including testing schedules and coverage for teacher absenteeism.
  • Collaborate closely with the CEO and Dean of Students to instill a positive, productive culture throughout the school community.
  • Implement a positive school behavior plan based on the Board-adopted Student Success Manual.
  • Ensure schedules align with instructional and curricular goals for arts and academic programming, including special education.
  • Conduct regular learning walks to help staff maintain high standards of excellence and provide ongoing feedback.
