About the Role

The DCVPA Principal serves as the leader of the school, responsible for developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum activities, and budgets that promote the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member.

Key Responsibilities
  • Chief Administrator: Oversee building management, budget, decision-making, and personnel management.
  • Student Performance Oversight: Monitor student growth, data, evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Professional Development: Provide feedback, observations, and work with students directly, lead planning, curriculum, assessment, school meetings, walkthroughs, and office work preparation.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Form partnerships to enhance the school's work and garner additional resources for the school.
Requirements
  • Education: Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Public School Administration Program: Completion of a program that meets the public school administration program approval standards set by the State Board of Education.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience as a principal and 5 years of classroom teaching experience, including at least 2 years as an Assistant Principal or comparable experience in leading adults.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate Degree: Doctorate degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in a Similar Role: 5 or more years of experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in a Title I School: Experience working in a Title I school.
  • Transformational Outcomes: Evidence of transformational outcomes in teaching and learning at a previous school.
  • Extensive Training: Extensive training in discipline, restorative practice, exceptional children's services, multi-tiered system of supports, budget, planning, evaluation system, crisis management.
  • Knowledge in General Education Subjects: Strong knowledge in general education subjects with a specific focus on foundational literacy and math.
  • Ability to Co-Lead: Ability to co-lead, plan, and work collaboratively with candidate/student teachers and principal interns.
Required Certifications or Licensures
  • Valid Professional Educator License: Valid professional educator license in the State of North Carolina.
