  • Develop, write, and troubleshoot PLC code, focusing on creating organized, structured, documented, maintainable, and reusable code for high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Ensure factory safety and reliability by implementing ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA compliant systems for robots, gantries, conveyors, and other manufacturing apparatus.
  • Create user-friendly HMI interfaces to simplify the operation and troubleshooting of complex machinery.
  • Design electrical systems in accordance with NEC, NFPA, and UL508A standards.
  • Maintain organization by establishing schedules and budgets, while inspiring the team to meet these objectives.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace/aeronautical engineering, or computer science.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in industrial or factory automation design, which can include professional, internship, research, or project/competition team settings.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Enthusiasm for a fast-paced and iterative design and manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to address complex challenges with straightforward solutions during both design and implementation phases.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the capability to collaboratively make plans and provide directional recommendations across functions.
  • Ability to devise innovative approaches to challenges while adhering to ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA safety standards to maintain a secure factory environment.

Experience in at least one of the following disciplines is required, with a willingness to learn the fundamentals of other areas:

Mechanical:

  • Designing machines with an emphasis on speed, reliability, maintainability, and safety.
  • Implementing motion systems (gantries, robotics, conveyance, motors, actuators, pneumatics/hydraulics, sensor selection and integration).
  • Conducting fundamental structural calculations and designing for strength and stiffness.
  • Utilizing CAD and product lifecycle management software to produce detailed designs and drawing packages, preferably with Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
  • Understanding manufacturing processes and designing for manufacturability.
  • Exposure to various production machinery, industrial sensors, and equipment.

Electrical:

  • Sizing electrical components such as motors, cables, circuit protection, VFDs, and motor starters.
  • Designing fail-safe electrical circuits using safety logic controllers and safety-rated relays.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting of industrial electrical systems using tools like multimeters and oscilloscopes.
  • Proficiency in creating and interpreting electrical schematics and single line diagrams.
  • Experience with fieldbus networks and communication protocols.
  • Designing and commissioning high-quality electrical panels and electro-mechanical systems with safety considerations.
  • Knowledge of compliance standards such as NEC, IEC, NFPA, and UL508A.

Industrial Software:

  • PLC programming, preferably with Siemens SIMATIC structured text.
  • Programming drives, ideally Siemens G120, S120, and S210.
  • Implementing machine safety software using safety PLCs.
  • Developing user-friendly HMI and SCADA systems.
  • Understanding networking protocols, particularly EtherCAT and Profinet.
  • Programming robotics, preferably with ABB systems.
  • Applying industrial software to mechanical assemblies, electrical systems, and sensors.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to meet critical project milestones.
