ROLE OVERVIEW:As a Lead Software Engineer specializing in combustion simulation, you will be instrumental in creating top-tier combustion modeling software that enhances and accelerates the development of the Raptor rocket engine.
Join a team of exceptional engineers, software developers, and analysts dedicated to pioneering simulation capabilities that support the rapid design of the world’s most advanced rocket engines. We face numerous complex challenges that require innovative solutions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and sustain a high-performance, massively parallel combustion simulation software.
- Collaborate with combustion analysts and computer scientists to create advanced simulation tools that expedite engine design.
- Research, assess, and integrate state-of-the-art features on multi-core and GPU hardware to enhance simulation capabilities and performance, driven by an ambitious engine development agenda.
- Engage in all facets of software development as part of a cross-functional team.
- Uphold the highest standards of excellence, striving for continuous improvement with a focus on our goal of reaching Mars.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related STEM field with 8+ years of professional software development experience; OR 10+ years of software development experience in lieu of a degree.
- 5+ years of experience in software development using C++.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Proven experience in developing and implementing combustion numerical methods.
- Experience in developing concurrent applications (e.g., threading, MPI, CUDA).
- Participation in at least one large-scale software project (over 100,000 lines of code).
- Familiarity with object-oriented software design and functional programming.
- Background in scientific computing, high-performance computing, or mathematics.
- Strong capabilities in debugging, performance optimization, and unit testing.
- Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies, particularly test-driven development and continuous integration.
- Master's degree in computational physics or an engineering discipline is a plus.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Willingness to travel for hardware testing and launches.
- Availability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Salary Range: $200,000 - $270,000 per year.
Your specific level and base salary will be determined based on various factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
In addition to base salary, you may be eligible for long-term incentives, such as company stock options, cash awards, and potential bonuses, along with the opportunity to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
Comprehensive benefits include medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and various discounts and perks.
Employees accrue three weeks of paid vacation and are eligible for ten or more paid holidays each year. Exempt employees are entitled to five days of sick leave annually.
