Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health Fitness Specialist to join our team at The National Institute for Fitness and Sport (NIFS) as a substitute. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the management of our fitness amenities, including a pool, fitness center, and group fitness studio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Group Fitness
    • Teach group exercise classes onsite, providing a range of activities to meet various fitness levels of class participants.
    • Adhere to appropriate safety guidelines while keeping classes inviting, challenging, and well-attended.
  • Member Support
    • Supervise fitness center and provide educational background and other relevant training to accurately and safely answer member questions related to health, fitness, and wellbeing.
    • Assess health status of members, ranging from apparently healthy to high risk, to provide exercise and other wellness-related counsel/recommendations unique to each individual.
  • Facility Operations
    • Conduct orientations according to facility layout, membership policies/procedures, and Quality Assurance guidelines.
    • Establish an ongoing positive and professional rapport with members.
    • Support special events, such as races and charity walks.
    • Cross-train to learn some responsibilities of other regular staff onsite.
    • Partner with other staff to help clean equipment and other areas of the facility as needed.
  • Qualifications and Requirements
    • Degree in a health-related field or working toward related degree.
    • Relevant work experience and training required; experience with older adult clientele preferred.
    • Ability to teach basic balance, chair exercise, and muscle conditioning group fitness classes; aquatic experience preferred.
    • Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification required.
    • ACSM and other Industry Certifications acknowledged.
    • May be required to submit to and successfully pass a thorough background check and/or drug screen.
    • To safeguard its employees, our Client requires NIFS employees working at its site to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
