Human Resources Strategic Partner

Position Summary
This role is hybrid, primarily supporting the University of Maryland Medical System.
The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) is a leading academic health system dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate care while integrating innovation and research into everyday practice. In collaboration with the University of Maryland School of Medicine and other educational institutions, UMMS serves as a vital healthcare provider across Maryland, operating numerous facilities and urgent care centers.
General Responsibilities
As a key member of the leadership team for designated client groups, this position involves consulting with stakeholders to design and implement effective human resource programs, policies, and initiatives aimed at fostering a positive workplace culture. The role requires active participation in the formulation and execution of client-specific and organizational strategies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Formulate and implement HR strategies aligned with business objectives for designated areas, ensuring that HR services are effective and add value.
- Provide consulting support to enhance a performance-driven culture, addressing performance management, learning opportunities, and recognition strategies.
- Serve as the primary contact for leadership and employees, offering guidance on a wide range of HR matters, including performance management and workforce engagement.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve employee engagement and develop action plans to address complex employee relations issues.
- Lead the design and execution of special projects and HR initiatives, including organizational development, strategic planning, and conflict resolution.
- Engage in activities that promote a positive work environment, collaborating with represented staff as necessary.
- Facilitate employee grievances and appeals, and may assist with administrative functions related to employment programs.
- May undertake additional HR responsibilities, including recruitment, as needed during transitions.
Qualifications
- A minimum of three years of progressive HR experience, preferably in employee and labor relations within healthcare or similar sectors.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or a related field is required; a Master’s degree and professional HR certification (PHR or SPHR) are preferred.
