At the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, we are renowned for our excellence in cancer care, research, and education. We are currently seeking a Limited Casual Nutrition Specialist to join our Oncology team. This role is essential in providing nutritional expertise and support to our patients at the forefront of cancer treatment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional patient care to a diverse range of individuals utilizing Medical Nutrition Therapy, including comprehensive assessments and tailored care plans.
  • Act as the nutrition expert for assigned units, addressing needs and initiatives to enhance the nutrition care process.
  • Engage in effective communication as a collaborative member of the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Maintain knowledge of outpatient billing guidelines and ensure compliance with documentation standards.
  • Conduct Nutrition Diagnoses and identify malnutrition through focused assessments and established criteria.
  • Provide personalized nutritional education and counseling based on the unique learning needs of patients and families.
  • Exhibit professional writing skills adaptable to various health literacy levels in preparing educational materials and presentations.
  • Implement timely interventions based on Nutrition Risk levels and care plans.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the department, promoting evidence-based practices.
  • Execute order writing in accordance with established protocols.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Strong analytical skills for accurate assessment, planning, and evaluation of outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective interaction with diverse populations and teamwork.
  • Proficient in nutrition education, counseling, and mentoring.
  • Critical thinking abilities for informed decision-making.
  • Preferred experience in oncology.

Licensure and Certifications

Applicants must obtain the following within specified timeframes:

  • Registered Dietitian within 6 months of hire.
  • Licensed Dietitian within 9 months of hire.
  • Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN)
  • Registered Dietitian (RD)
  • Act 34 Clearance
