Position Overview:
UPMC Mercy is seeking a Casual Dietitian to enhance our healthcare services.

This role requires a commitment of at least one shift every two weeks.

Compensation will be based on experience and determined during the offer process. The pay range is reflective of the Dietitian II level.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver expert nutrition guidance as part of the interdisciplinary team managing hospitalized patients.
  • Ensure compliance with outpatient billing guidelines and maintain accurate documentation for client charges.
  • Conduct educational sessions or CEU opportunities for the multidisciplinary team at the facility level.
  • Formulate Nutrition Diagnoses and identify Malnutrition using Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment and established criteria.
  • Execute order writing in accordance with the Dietitian Delegation Order system protocol.
  • Provide tailored nutritional education and counseling based on the learning needs and capabilities of patients and families.
  • Exhibit effective communication as a collaborative member of the care team.
  • Mentor dietetic students, interns, and support staff, offering constructive feedback for their development.
  • Implement timely interventions based on Nutrition Risk levels and the established Plan of Care.
  • Deliver quality patient care to diverse populations through Medical Nutrition Therapy, including assessment, goal setting, and care planning.
  • Lead an annual departmental initiative, promoting evidence-based practices.
  • Act as a nutrition liaison/expert for assigned units and participate in interdisciplinary committees to enhance nutrition care processes.
  • Demonstrate professional writing skills adaptable to various health literacy levels in preparing educational materials and communications.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics with a minimum of 2 years of clinical nutrition experience, and must be a registered dietitian.

OR a Master's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics with at least 1 year of clinical nutrition experience, and a registered dietitian is required.
