Registered Nurse - Chemotherapy

POSITION SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse specializing in Chemotherapy is responsible for administering a range of chemotherapy treatment protocols safely and effectively within a private oncology practice. This role involves close collaboration with various physicians to address the unique needs of each patient throughout their chemotherapy journey.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Administers treatments to patients in accordance with physician directives by preparing and delivering chemotherapy and other parenteral medications.

a. Adheres to standards established by QOPI to ensure all necessary patient information is verified prior to the initiation of treatment.

b. Complies with ONC/OSHA regulations for the safe administration and disposal of chemotherapy agents.

c. Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment, including gowns and gloves, during the preparation and administration of chemotherapy.

d. Employs correct techniques for establishing venous access via peripheral or central lines.

2. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of chemotherapy, non-chemotherapeutic agents, and standard regimen medications and dosages utilized in patient care.

3. Monitors patient conditions through continuous assessments during infusions, including vital signs and potential drug reactions or adverse effects.

4. Ensures the proper use of personal protective equipment throughout the mixing and administration of chemotherapy.

5. Provides education to patients and their families regarding chemotherapy treatments, including potential side effects and self-care strategies.

6. Offers emotional and psychological support to patients and their families, maintaining open communication to alleviate anxieties and enhance their overall experience.
