Job Overview:

The Lead Engineer is responsible for overseeing the operational integrity of the Facilities Department. This role involves implementing a thorough preventive maintenance strategy for all machinery and equipment. The Lead Engineer will maintain communication with regulatory bodies and manage all equipment repair shutdowns within the facility. Additionally, this position provides leadership and support to the Engineering Department's operational staff and is responsible for training personnel as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Supervise and manage the Boiler Plant, including the Automated Building Management systems.
  2. Offer guidance and support to all staff within the Facilities Department.
  3. Provide expertise on various engineering and maintenance tasks, including heating, power, ventilation, plumbing, and general facility upkeep.
  4. Ensure all necessary certifications, permits, and licenses are up to date.
  5. Develop and implement a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for the facility, focusing on high-pressure steam systems, chillers, emergency generators, water chemistry, and fuel storage to enhance reliability and reduce maintenance costs.
  6. Oversee the maintenance and repair of the facility and its auxiliary equipment to comply with all relevant regulations and codes.
  7. Set specifications for new equipment and maintain an approved vendor list.
  8. Assist in diagnosing complex equipment issues related to steam, air conditioning, energy management, and mechanical systems.
  9. Act as a liaison with external agencies, including gas transportation and electrical transmission services.
  10. Collaborate with the Director and external contractors to plan modifications and renovations related to the steam and chilled water systems.
  11. Manage resources, including supplies, equipment, and information.
  12. Maintain records and reports on staff training performance and ongoing education needs.
  13. Ensure adequate inventory levels of supplies.
  14. Evaluate equipment and recommend maintenance, repairs, upgrades, or replacements.
  15. Participate in space planning and utilization.
  16. Verify the accuracy and integrity of records before submission to Facilities Management.
  17. Work closely with facility leadership to address work-related challenges.
  18. Ensure that the Facilities Department meets its objectives and that resources are allocated effectively.
  19. Undertake additional projects and responsibilities as assigned.
  20. Train new staff and provide ongoing education for existing personnel regarding maintenance duties.
Qualifications:

Experience:
A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in industrial power plant operations and distribution.

Education:
  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Knowledge of energy plant operations and maintenance, along with related mathematics, blueprints, codes, and regulations, typically acquired through two (2) years of college or vocational training related to industrial power plant operations.
Licenses / Certifications: Must hold and maintain a class BUST Operator certificate.
