The Lead Engineer is responsible for overseeing the operational integrity of the Facilities Department. This role involves implementing a thorough preventive maintenance strategy for all machinery and equipment, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and managing repair-related shutdowns effectively. The Lead Engineer will also provide mentorship and support to the Engineering Department's Plant Operations team and conduct training for personnel as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage the Boiler Plant operations, including the Automated Building Management systems.
- Offer guidance and support to all staff within the Facilities Department regarding plant operations.
- Advise on various engineering and maintenance tasks, encompassing heating, power generation, ventilation, plumbing, and general upkeep of the facility.
- Ensure all necessary certifications, permits, and licenses are up-to-date.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for the facility, covering high-pressure steam systems, chillers, emergency generators, water chemistry, and fuel storage to optimize reliability and minimize costs.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of plant and auxiliary equipment to comply with all relevant governmental regulations and codes.
- Establish specifications for new equipment and maintain an approved vendor list.
- Assist in diagnosing complex equipment issues related to steam, air conditioning, energy management, and mechanical systems.
- Act as a liaison with external stakeholders, including gas transportation and electrical transmission entities.
- Collaborate with the Director and external contractors to plan modifications and renovations to the steam and chilled water systems.
- Manage resources effectively, including supplies, equipment, and information.
- Maintain detailed records and reports on staff training performance and ongoing educational needs.
- Ensure adequate inventory levels of supplies.
- Evaluate equipment and recommend maintenance, repairs, upgrades, or replacements as necessary.
- Participate in the planning and utilization of facility space.
- Verify the accuracy and integrity of both conventional and computer-aided records before submission to Facilities Management.
- Work closely with facility leadership to address and resolve work-related challenges.
- Ensure that the Facilities Department's objectives are met and resources are allocated efficiently.
- Undertake additional projects and responsibilities as assigned.
- Provide training for new staff and ongoing education for existing personnel as required.
Experience:
A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in industrial power plant operations and distribution.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of two (2) years of college, vocational, or technical education related to industrial power plant operations, along with knowledge of energy plant operation and maintenance, mathematics, blueprints, codes, and regulations.
