Role Description:

The Cartographic Analyst will play a vital role in supporting the Maritime Safety Office at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. The selected individual will contribute to enhancing the operational areas of Digital Nautical Chart Production and Notice to Mariners.


Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, or equivalent military training (e.g., Army MOS 12Y or Marine Corps MOS 0261) with relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in Geospatial Analysis, familiarity with the Intelligence Community, and knowledge of geospatial data formats.
  • Hands-on experience with ESRI ArcGIS10 and personal Geodatabases.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, with a bachelor's degree counting as up to 4 years of experience.
  • Strong expertise in geography, cartography, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), particularly with ArcGIS applications.
  • Proficient in creating shapefiles, geo-databases, and various features.
  • Familiarity with geospatial analysis software, including GIS commercial packages such as ArcGIS, ERDAS, and SocetSet GXP.
  • Knowledge of digital cartography, image processing, and NGA digital data formats.
  • Experience in sourcing information from legal documents and historical maps for boundary maintenance.
  • Ability to prepare source materials for digitization and perform geo-referencing and ortho-rectification of maps and imagery.

Physical Demands:

Position requires prolonged periods of sitting (up to 80% of the time) and occasional movement to access office equipment. Candidates may need to reach overhead, bend, and lift items weighing up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities are necessary for extensive computer monitor use.
