Consumer Loan Underwriting Specialist

Position Overview:
In accordance with established protocols and procedures, this role entails exercising judgment and discretion to make informed credit decisions for members seeking various loan options.
Key Responsibilities:
Review loan applications thoroughly, conduct interviews with applicants, and gather necessary documentation to assess the creditworthiness of each candidate and determine the outcome of loan requests.
Prepare the requisite documentation and forms for submission to the Lending Manager. Collect and verify information needed to process loan applications, including income verification and credit report analysis. This position involves underwriting a diverse range of loans with a significant degree of autonomy.
Essential Duties:
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource for dealer and staff inquiries regarding the Credit Union's lending programs.
- Adhere to established guidelines while exercising discretion in making credit decisions for consumer (direct/indirect) and real estate loans.
- Ensure all applications are complete and accurate, providing guidance to branch personnel, members, and dealers regarding loan requirements and factors influencing loan approvals.
- Set stipulations for loan applications to facilitate sound lending decisions.
- Communicate progress and performance metrics of dealer partners to management.
- Generate monthly production reports and relay pertinent information to the manager.
- Offer recommendations, both written and verbal, to the Lending Manager and/or Credit Manager concerning credit applications that exceed individual underwriting authority.
- Assist branch personnel in the closing and disbursement of loans, ensuring compliance with guidelines and stipulations.
- Stay informed about current lending regulations and guidelines.
- Complete reports as requested by management and maintain effective working relationships with staff.
- Register with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) and undergo a background check. Annual maintenance of NMLS registration is required.
Salary Range:
$25.12/hour
