Service Coordinator

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Service Coordinator to join our team at the Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC). As a Service Coordinator, you will play a critical role in supporting our clients in achieving their highest potential for health and well-being.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain a safe and respectful environment for clients and staff.
- Provide support and guidance to clients in managing their daily needs, with a focus on challenges related to severe and persistent mental illness and substance use disorders.
- Collaborate with other staff and outside agencies to ensure clients receive comprehensive services and support.
- Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and organization of the facility.
- Assist with the preparation and serving of meals, as well as the cleanup of the dining area.
- Recruit and supervise client volunteers for regular tasks.
- Register clients and document services provided during shift hours, in accordance with established procedures.
- Provide information and referrals to other services available in the community to clients in need.
- Basic understanding of homelessness and various characteristics of homeless adult populations.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff from various backgrounds and disciplines.
- Ability to work effectively with clients displaying a wide range of unpleasant and/or bizarre behavior.
- Subscribe to the philosophy of cooperation and continuity across programs, and of consideration and respect for clients.
- Experience with the challenges of mental illness and substance use.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to sit, communicate with other employees, required to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds and to operate computer hardware systems.
