About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Service Coordinator to join our team at the Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC). As a Service Coordinator, you will play a critical role in supporting our clients in achieving their highest potential for health and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe and respectful environment for clients and staff.
  • Provide support and guidance to clients in managing their daily needs, with a focus on challenges related to severe and persistent mental illness and substance use disorders.
  • Collaborate with other staff and outside agencies to ensure clients receive comprehensive services and support.
  • Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and organization of the facility.
  • Assist with the preparation and serving of meals, as well as the cleanup of the dining area.
  • Recruit and supervise client volunteers for regular tasks.
  • Register clients and document services provided during shift hours, in accordance with established procedures.
  • Provide information and referrals to other services available in the community to clients in need.
Requirements
  • Basic understanding of homelessness and various characteristics of homeless adult populations.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff from various backgrounds and disciplines.
  • Ability to work effectively with clients displaying a wide range of unpleasant and/or bizarre behavior.
  • Subscribe to the philosophy of cooperation and continuity across programs, and of consideration and respect for clients.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with the challenges of mental illness and substance use.
