Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused Cafe Service Associate to join our team at The Common Market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers, ensuring a positive and welcoming experience.
  • Build and maintain customer satisfaction by offering high-quality products and services.
  • Prepare and serve a variety of beverages, including smoothies, gourmet coffee, and fresh juice drinks.
  • Assist with food preparation, including slicing deli meats and preparing deli sandwiches.
  • Maintain knowledge of products, sales, and promotions to effectively engage with customers.
  • Process transactions efficiently using the POS system, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Prepare high-quality foods on demand, following established recipes and maintaining the highest standards of quality.
  • Ensure inventory is stored, stocked, and rotated according to standard procedures.
  • Handle products in a safe, sanitary, and conscientious manner.
  • Remove trash, compost, and recyclables promptly.
  • Perform opening and closing tasks, including cleaning and sanitizing equipment, surfaces, and floors.
  • Complete shrink log as needed.
  • Ensure displays, signage, and tags are accurate.
  • Install new product displays as needed.
  • Participate in maintaining cleanliness and order.
  • Adhere to Health Department regulations and department sanitation and safety procedures.
  • Adhere to all workplace safety and security policies.
  • Participate in meetings and trainings.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education or experience.
  • A minimum of one (1) year's experience in a retail or food service environment.
  • A minimum of one (1) year's experience and familiarity with natural foods and products.
  • Supports the co-op's core values and aligns with the Co-op Code of Conduct.
  • Ability to accurately measure ingredients or calculate change.
  • Adapts readily based on evolving co-op needs or in response to feedback.
  • Maintains composure in highly stressful or adverse situations.
  • Familiarity with POS systems preferred.

Environmental and Physical Demands:

  • Flexibility to work any shift, including mornings, middays, evenings, weekends.
  • Must wear closed-toe, skid-resistant shoes; a head covering (hat, bandanna, etc.); and long pants.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures.
  • Ability to stand for long periods at a time.
