Position Title: Commercial Credit Underwriter

Business Unit: Credit

Reports to: Regional Underwriting Manager

Position Overview:


This role is primarily tasked with conducting financial evaluations of existing and potential commercial loan clients, analyzing financial statements, assessing industry and economic factors, performing cash flow assessments, and compiling comprehensive underwriting presentations to evaluate the creditworthiness of borrowers while safeguarding the Bank from potential losses, particularly focusing on larger accounts.

The incumbent is expected to deliver exceptional service to every client.

Primary Responsibilities:


Evaluates the credit profiles of borrowers, identifies critical credit concerns, and prepares detailed written analyses based on available data and established guidelines, ensuring accuracy and timeliness, including the completion of the FOCUS underwriting document with an emphasis on larger accounts and complex transactions with minimal oversight.


Conducts cash flow and global cash flow assessments for borrowers in accordance with established protocols, ensuring accuracy and timeliness to support the evaluation of a borrower's creditworthiness.


Employs Baker Hill software to process various types of submitted financial statements, adhering to established policies and procedures to assist in the assessment of a borrower's creditworthiness.


Investigates available information from various sources, including online resources and subscription services, to summarize insights regarding the current and projected status of specific industries and borrowers utilizing Bank services, alongside general economic trends and conditions, to enhance the quality of lending decisions.


Develops a personal strategy for maintaining a robust understanding of banking practices, compliance, credit evaluation, policies, and personal skills, demonstrating effective interpersonal behavior, attitude, judgment, communication, and initiative with clients and colleagues to ensure satisfactory performance levels.


Acts as a proficient leader on intricate transactions, including syndications, multi-tier capital structures, and/or investment real estate, showcasing outstanding communication skills and utilizing these skills to articulate opinions clearly and concisely to effectively address issues and provide recommendations regarding credit structures, risk assessments, appropriate risk ratings, and adherence to policies.


Independently investigates various industries using available resources and summarizes information regarding the current and projected status of specific sectors, markets, and borrowers utilizing Bank services, along with general economic trends and conditions, to assist senior management in making informed lending decisions.

Performs additional related duties and projects as assigned.
