Laboratory Operations Manager

Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the continuous laboratory testing schedule and activities performed by a team of 16 technicians focused on monitoring crude oil, assessing the quality of finished products (such as gasoline, distillates, and solvents), and controlling intermediate streams. Collaborate with various departments including Operations, Process Technology, Product Supply, and Planning to address operational challenges and resolve quality concerns.
- Ensure effective communication and coordination with all laboratory teams as required.
- Guarantee that all testing is conducted in accordance with established methods and specifications.
- Develop and maintain up-to-date analytical testing protocols.
- Manage and oversee the timely execution of the testing schedule for each shift utilizing the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Ensure the LIMS database is accurate and up-to-date.
- Generate and distribute unit test reports as necessary.
- Oversee the maintenance and calibration of analytical instruments.
- Ensure that standards and reagents are current and maintain a sufficient inventory of all necessary consumables, instrument components, and supplies.
- Provide training, certification, and regular audits for technicians on both existing and new testing methodologies and laboratory safety protocols.
- Ensure adherence to OSHA regulations regarding industrial hygiene and compliance with EPA standards, including responsibilities related to regulatory compliance.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels in the Inspection Laboratory by creating weekly shift schedules for technicians in accordance with union agreements.
- Address and resolve any staffing challenges as they arise.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree accompanied by a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License.
- Specialized training in Petroleum Laboratory Operations.
- Familiarity with DOT shipping regulations.
- Proficient in chemical handling and troubleshooting technical equipment.
- Eligibility for Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
