Job Title: Division Director

Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a highly qualified Division Director to lead the Accelerator Systems Division (ASD) at the Advanced Photon Source (APS). The APS is a world-leading synchrotron light source that attracts over 5,000 unique scientific users each year. The ASD is responsible for the entire APS accelerator system, providing physics and engineering support, pursuing innovative research, and developing new technologies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic leadership for the ASD to position the APS as a world-leading 4th generation synchrotron.
  • Drive operational excellence of the accelerator systems by developing multi-year strategies and execution plans.
  • Promote and maintain high standards in Environmental, Safety, Health, and Quality Assurance.
  • Actively participate in DEIA efforts and foster a culture that values diversity and inclusion.
  • Lead and manage a talented team of scientific, technical, and professional services staff.
  • Build an environment that promotes employee development, knowledge exchange, and talent attraction.
  • Partner with the Argonne Accelerator Institute and the Argonne Wakefield Accelerator to foster R&D in emerging electron-accelerated technologies.
Requirements:
  • Ability to think strategically and drive divisional alignment to institutional goals.
  • Experience in leading and managing teams in complex technical environments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of accelerator physics, engineering, and technology.
  • Comprehensive skill in developing creative solutions to complex scientific, technical, and management problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation in accelerator-based technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract funding internally or through external grants.
  • Good communication skills supporting engagement with sponsors, stakeholders, and advisory groups.
