Position: Assistant Preschool Teacher

Employment Type: Part-Time - Hourly (Daytime, 5 days per week)

Reports to: Director of Preschool

Role Summary:

The Assistant Preschool Teacher plays a vital role in supporting the lead preschool educator within one of the preschool classes at St. Andrew's. This individual should have a passion for working with young children, thrive in a preschool setting, and demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in daily tasks. The ideal candidate will bring a joyful spirit to the environment, reflecting the values of the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Collaboration:
    • Assist the Director of Preschool with various tasks on a weekly basis.
    • Participate in team efforts that support community gatherings and events.
    • Attend weekly preschool team meetings and other staff gatherings.
  • Core Duties:
    • Help create and maintain a welcoming, organized, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.
    • Implement daily Bible curriculum and exemplify Christian values throughout the day.
    • Assist in observing and documenting children's learning and development.
    • Engage with families regarding their child's progress and achievements during the year, including formal parent/teacher conferences.
    • Support the development and execution of the preschool curriculum.
    • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Environment Setup:
    • Prepare and dismantle the learning environment as needed.
    • Create inviting spaces that inspire children to learn and play.
    • Utilize preschool management software to share updates, photos, and stories with parents.
  • Professional Conduct:
    • Maintain a professional demeanor in interactions with teachers, parents, children, and staff.
    • Teach in alignment with the developmental philosophy and values of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.
  • Classroom Management:
    • Perform general housekeeping tasks to ensure a positive classroom atmosphere.
    • Assist in completing assessment reports for children for bi-annual conferences.
    • Help compile yearly portfolios for children at the end of the academic year.
    • Develop a personal growth plan to share with your supervisor, focusing on enhancing strengths and addressing areas for improvement.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to a team dedicated to Christian service, conducting oneself in a manner that reflects this commitment.
  • Proficient in using computers, including Microsoft Office and Keynote.
  • Availability for occasional weekend or evening events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Minister of Family Ministries or Director of Preschool.

Qualifications:

  • Active involvement in a Christian Church, supporting the mission and values of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 Early Childhood Education Units (enrollment acceptable).
  • At least one year of experience in a preschool setting.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (training provided).
  • Mandated Reporter certification (training provided).
