Position Summary

The role of the preschool teacher involves leading a classroom at St. Andrew's. This individual should possess a genuine affection for children, demonstrate adaptability in a preschool setting, and maintain a positive demeanor. The teacher will embody the values of the institution, providing a nurturing presence for families and staff alike.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaboration:
    • Support the Director of Preschool with weekly tasks.
    • Participate in church-wide events and gatherings.
    • Attend weekly team meetings and additional staff meetings.
  • Core Duties:
    • Create and sustain a welcoming, organized, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.
    • Implement a daily Bible curriculum and exemplify Christian values throughout the day.
    • Monitor and document children's growth and learning.
    • Engage with families regarding their child's progress and achievements during formal conferences.
    • Contribute to the development and execution of the preschool curriculum.
    • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Environment Setup:
    • Prepare and dismantle the classroom environment as necessary.
    • Establish inviting spaces that inspire learning and play.
    • Utilize preschool management software to share updates with parents, including photos and event information.
  • Professionalism:
    • Maintain a respectful and professional demeanor in all communications.
    • Educate children in alignment with the developmental philosophy of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.
  • Classroom Management:
    • Perform general housekeeping duties to ensure a positive classroom atmosphere.
    • Complete assessment reports for each child for bi-annual parent-teacher conferences.
    • Compile yearly portfolios for children at the end of the academic year.
    • Develop a personal growth plan to enhance professional skills and address areas for improvement.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Act as a member of a team committed to Christian service, conducting oneself in a manner that reflects the values of the church.
  • Proficient in computer usage, including Microsoft Office and Keynote.
  • Availability for occasional weekend or evening events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Minister of Family Ministries or Director of Preschool.
Qualifications
  • Active participation in a Christian church, affirming the mission and values of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.
Education and Experience
  • A minimum of 12 Early Childhood Education Units (enrollment acceptable).
  • At least one year of experience in a preschool setting.
  • CPR and first aid certification (training provided).
  • Mandated reporter certification (training provided).
