Nighttime Support Supervisor

The Nighttime Support Supervisor is a full-time, year-round role that reports to the Campus Life management team and the Night Supervisor. This position is crucial in assisting with the daily functions of the Campus Life Department. You will help oversee and guide a team dedicated to delivering essential services to our students, ensuring their welfare, and nurturing a positive and inclusive community. Given the access to sensitive information regarding Shrub Oak and its students, a high level of discretion and independent judgment is essential.
Key ResponsibilitiesPrimary Duties Include:
- Collaborate with the Campus Life management team to manage daily operations within residence halls and for boarding students, including staff scheduling.
- Supervise and mentor team members, including Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) and 1:1 aides, contributing to their professional growth.
- Engage in the recruitment process and address performance management issues.
- Act as a liaison between the Campus Life Department and key administrative offices, facilitating effective communication and coordination.
- Guide and orient new staff members, fostering their development within the organization.
- Address challenging student behaviors with a focus on teaching alternative, constructive behaviors.
- Establish and maintain trusting relationships with students, recognizing their unique needs and promoting a supportive environment.
- Clarify, enforce, and support policies and procedures, encouraging self-advocacy and independence among students.
- Complete administrative responsibilities, including move-in/move-out processes, orientations, and incident documentation.
- Respond promptly to emergencies and situations requiring immediate attention, adhering to established protocols.
- Facilitate programming and community development initiatives based on student needs.
- Advise, support, and mentor students on various life challenges, collaborating with faculty and clinicians.
- Design, present, monitor, and assess educational and campus life programs.
- Work with Campus Life staff to ensure students have a consistent schedule of events and activities.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and remain on call as necessary to support program operations.
Required:
- Relevant education and experience in student housing, with a minimum of 48 college credits, an Associate's degree (AA), or successful completion of the Para Assessment Test.
- Alternatively, a relevant combination of post-secondary education and at least 2 years of experience working with special needs populations, such as in roles like 1:1 support, Direct Support Professional (DSP), Social Worker, Recreational Therapist, Registered Behavioral Technician, Behavioral Specialist, paraprofessional, assistant teacher, or similar positions.
- Prior experience in special education and behavioral intervention (experience in a boarding school setting is advantageous).
- Experience working with adolescents and young adults on the autism spectrum or those with developmental disabilities.
- Ability to mentor and develop staff effectively.
- Knowledge of crisis prevention and intervention strategies, as well as behavior intervention plans.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to manage confidentiality and multitask efficiently.
- A collaborative team player with flexibility for evening and weekend work.
- A valid driver's license is preferred.

Decision-Making AuthorityThe individual in this role must be capable of making informed assessments and decisions to manage the day-to-day responsibilities effectively. They will be expected to provide valuable insights and recommendations while consulting with the program manager and director for guidance as necessary.
Work EnvironmentThe position is primarily based in a residential school environment during after-school hours and weekends.
Physical RequirementsThis role requires mobility, including walking, standing, navigating stairs, and occasionally lifting or carrying items weighing up to 25 pounds. Quick response and mobility around the campus may be necessary to ensure student safety in unforeseen situations.
Position Type and Expected HoursThis is a full-time position with a traditional 40-hour work week, requiring work during evenings and weekends to meet job demands.
