POSITION SUMMARY:

The Staff Accountant will play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the financial records and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepare journal entries and conduct account reconciliations to uphold the general ledger in line with accepted accounting principles.
  • Manage, reconcile, and document all activities associated with the semi-annual release of net assets.
  • Oversee and record all transfers among various funds as directed by Executive Committee decisions.
  • Compile and prepare necessary schedules for the annual independent audit.
  • Assist in the preparation of schedules relevant to the annual budget.
  • Support the Controller in the preparation of annual tax filings, including IRS Form 990 and 990-T, as well as local tax returns.
  • Coordinate with other departments to prepare schedules for various inventories.
  • Serve as a backup for processing bi-weekly payroll and weekly check requests.

REQUIREMENTS:

This role necessitates a minimum of 2+ years of experience in an accounting environment, whether in a corporate accounting department or a public accounting firm. Experience in the nonprofit sector is essential.

A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related discipline is required.

Candidates must exhibit strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting.

Advanced proficiency in one or more computerized accounting software systems is mandatory, along with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and intermediate skills in Microsoft Word.
