Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Field Technician to join our team at the City of Chesapeake. As a Field Technician, you will play a critical role in protecting the health, safety, and comfort of our citizens by performing routine semi-skilled and manual work in connection with mosquito control tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with crews engaged in sources reduction activities and the application of pesticides for the control of mosquitoes, as directed.
  • Perform tasks as necessary in the maintenance of Commission property and equipment.
  • Interact with the general public, complete citizen service requests, and apply mosquito control measures.
  • Operate Commission vehicles and equipment, such as pesticide application equipment, larviciding and adulticiding trucks, weed eaters, and chain saws.
  • Walk and clear numerous ditches and drainage ways of brush, fallen leaves, trees, and undergrowth to maintain drainage ways.
  • Prepare daily work reports and complete additional forms and reports, as required.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • No experience is necessary; we will train.
  • Must be 21 years of age; possess a valid driver's license and a Division of Motor Vehicle report acceptable to the Commission's insurance carrier and in compliance with the Commission's driving standards.
  • The job requires standing, walking, moving, carrying, bending, kneeling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling.
  • Must obtain a Virginia "Registered Technician" pesticide applicator certification within 2 months (8 weeks) from date of hire.
  • Experience working with pesticides is preferred.
  • Experience in outdoor manual work is preferred.
  • Basic mosquito and/or pest control knowledge preferred, but not required.
