Masonry Technician Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Masonry Technician to join our team at the Virginia Department of Human Resource Management. The ideal candidate will have experience in the plaster-masonry related trades and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Builds brick, block, and stone structures according to the building code of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Performs all work in accordance with the masonry industry standard.
  • Prepares cost estimates for new and renovation projects, determines cost estimates for repairs, and requisitions materials needed for repairs and special projects.
  • Installs and repairs sheet rock ceilings and walls, plaster ceilings and walls, and installs and replaces ceiling, floor, and wall tile according to industry standard.
  • Installs and finishes concrete for sidewalks, handicapped ramps, curbs, and gutters on slabs according to industry standard.
  • Works with materials such as wood, drywall, concrete, masonry, and tile.
  • Utilizes hand and power tools to repair, renovate, and erect structures.
  • Works from heights, as necessary, including stilts, ladders, and scaffolding.
  • Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, and conveys matters to large diverse audiences.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Work requires knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Considerable knowledge and experience of the plaster-masonry related trades work.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Vocational certification and/or military experience in the plaster/masonry field.
