About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Utilities Division Leader to join our team at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. As a key member of our Infrastructure Maintenance and Utilities Department, you will be responsible for providing leadership and management to the Mechanical Utilities Division, ensuring the mechanical utility needs of our Programs and the Laboratory are met.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and provide technical direction to a team of engineers and technical staff engaged in planning, engineering, maintenance, and operation of mechanical utility systems.
  • Determine support levels and needs, establish personnel-action procedures, and provide career development opportunities.
  • Maintain engineering quality and consistency in design, maintenance, and operation of mechanical utilities.
  • Oversee utility improvement construction projects and prepare, review, and implement annual operating and construction budgets.
  • Develop, monitor, and report on performance measures for water utilities and mechanical equipment.
  • Develop and implement operating and maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Prepare technical presentations for management, programmatic clients, and DOE/NNSA Livermore Field Office/Headquarters.
Requirements
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Extensive experience in engineering and management of mechanical utilities, including regulatory requirements, configuration management, standards, and specifications.
  • Significant experience managing budgets associated with construction and providing reliable, cost-effective mechanical utility services.
  • Significant experience planning/forecasting short- and long-term workforce requirements for engineers and technical personnel.
  • Experience managing the performance of engineers and technicians, including performance management and disciplinary actions.
  • Expert communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with a wide spectrum of personnel.
  • Highly advanced problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills necessary to independently resolve complex issues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer registration in California.
  • Water System Operation certification.
  • Wastewater and Sanitary Sewer Operation certification.
  • Experience developing, monitoring, and reporting on performance measures.
