At Blue Origin, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development. As a key member of our team, you'll play a crucial role in shaping the future of space travel. We're seeking an experienced and skilled Development/Tooling Fab Huntsville Manager to join our dynamic team.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Machine shop, overseeing resource planning, job descriptions, interviews, hiring recommendations, task assignments, and performance reviews.
  • Develop and implement critical machining processes, supporting aerospace, commercial aircraft, or specialized fabrication of close tolerance production hardware.
  • Setup new production work areas, including layouts, tooling, and equipment setup.
  • Direct hands-on experience with various products utilizing multiple-axis machining, turning, and grinding centers.
  • Interface with area leadership to prioritize work based on production schedule and organizational goals.
  • Ensure product quality and conformance to engineering specifications.
  • Develop and implement cost reduction processes and efficiency improvement measures.
  • Implement and refine new manufacturing processes.
  • Work with engineering to document and standardize production processes.
  • Collaborate with engineering to develop production-ready manufacturing approaches.
  • Review work instructions and provide recommended changes where necessary.
  • Assure continued training and skills development to attract, develop, and retain great people.
  • Assist with transition from development to production by working alongside engineering to successfully transition the product.
  • Forecasting and developing recovery plans for constraints critical to vehicle delivery schedule.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement projects for area safety and efficiency.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5+ years in a direct supervision/leadership position, working on aerospace development programs or production facilities.
  • Minimum of 10+ years in the precision machining field.
  • Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures.
  • Excellent blueprint reading skills, including GD&T per ASME Y14.5M-1994 standard.
  • Outside processing knowledge (heat treat, plating, coating, EDM, grinding, etc.).
  • Ability to work effectively with a strong work ethic and close attention to detail in a fast-paced dynamic team environment with rapidly changing roles and responsibilities.
  • Basic computer skills, such as Windows, Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Must be able to set a high hiring bar while evaluating and hiring top talent.
  • Extremely customer-focused with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teams of diverse skills across large geographic distances.
  • A continuous improvement mindset.
  • Work off-shift, extended hours, overtime, and weekends if/when necessary.
  • Intense curiosity for understanding the details of our business and how to optimize it.
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills and a proven ability to drive complex projects with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

Desired:

  • Experience machining nickel-based stainless steel alloys, copper, titanium.
  • Tooling and fixture design.
  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM tools.
  • Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts around flight-critical hardware.
  • Knowledge and understanding of CMM programming/operation.
  • Outside processing knowledge (heat treat, plating, coating, EDM, grinding, etc.).
  • Ability to work cooperatively with teams of diverse skill levels.
  • Experience machining tight tolerance, high-value components.
