The Illumination Systems Specialist is responsible for the effective management and operation of lighting systems during various events and services.
Key Responsibilities:
This role offers the opportunity to lead the recruitment and training of lighting volunteers, fostering a collaborative team atmosphere across all aspects of live production.
The specialist will conduct research and preparation to optimize lighting effects that align with the desired production style. This includes upgrading, installing, and managing all lighting equipment.
Collaboration:
Work closely with the Production Director and Live Production Team to take charge of programming and operating lighting systems across all venues.
Technical Expertise:
Maintain a comprehensive understanding of lighting properties, designs, and programs to achieve the best production outcomes.
Strategic Planning:
Play a vital role in the planning of live events, establishing a defined lighting style for all venues, and delivering lighting designs in advance to create the desired atmosphere.
Volunteer Development:
Recruit, train, and empower volunteers to operate lighting systems effectively. Training initiatives should encompass style guidance, one-on-one coaching, and technical training on equipment maintenance and programming.
Management Duties:
Oversee the lighting volunteer team and ensure scheduled operations for all events are met. Take accountability for lighting quality and crew performance during productions as directed by the Production Director.
Safety and Coordination:
Understand basic electrical safety and coordinate lighting setups, circuits, and plots. Attend rehearsals and creative meetings as necessary, collaborating with set designers and other departments.
Additional Responsibilities:
Assist with venue preparation, system maintenance, and upgrades related to lighting, audio, and video infrastructure.
Qualifications:
Two to three years of lighting experience is required, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A strong desire to build community within the team and invest in the lives of volunteers is essential.
Skills:
Ability to train and inspire adults with enthusiasm and encouragement. Broad knowledge of production processes and the ability to translate departmental goals into practical production concepts.
Exhibit sound judgment, integrity, and punctuality while maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.
