Position Summary:

This role involves supporting the preservation and enhancement of the O'odham language through various programming initiatives. The individual will be tasked with conveying information in the O'odham language by translating community announcements and events.

The responsibilities include ongoing review of work to ensure precision, adherence to timelines, and compliance with established guidelines. Most tasks are governed by comprehensive instructions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately translate diverse topics into the O'odham language.
  • Assist team members and volunteers in utilizing conversational O'odham during broadcasts.
  • Participate in the documentation and preservation of oral histories, songs, and other cultural narratives.
  • Ensure adherence to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations and organizational standards.
  • Present music and programming in the O'odham language as assigned.
  • Read news, community events, and sponsorship messages during immersive programming.
  • Manage listener requests and dedications during live programming.
  • Support the editing of recorded O'odham material for broadcast.
  • Assist in promotional activities and events.
  • Review O'odham language songs for appropriateness before airplay.
  • Provide voice-overs for promotional content and public service announcements.
  • Support live broadcasts and remote events with necessary equipment.
  • Represent the organization positively and professionally.
  • Maintain regular office hours and report to the General Manager or designated supervisor.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned and contribute to team objectives.

  • Understanding of Tohono O'odham culture and traditions.
  • Familiarity with relevant federal, state, and tribal regulations.
  • Proficient in communication techniques and methods.
  • Ability to convey information effectively through speech.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in speaking and understanding the O'odham language.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Preferred completion of an O'odham language proficiency assessment.
  • Must possess a clear and articulate voice with excellent pronunciation.
  • Background check required upon hiring recommendation.
  • Fluency in both the Tohono O'odham Language and English is necessary for employment.
