Role Summary

The Child Development AmeriCorps Member will engage at Our House's child development facility, Bright Beginnings, which accommodates children from 6 weeks to 5 years old. The member will collaborate in either a toddler or Pre-K classroom, under the guidance of a Lead Teacher. Responsibilities include assisting in the planning and execution of educational activities, ensuring the safety of all participants, and fostering a stimulating, enjoyable, and secure environment that supports children's developmental objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct support to children in the Bright Beginnings program to help them achieve developmental milestones.
  • Assist in the execution of curriculum-based activities aligned with Arkansas' Child Development and Early Learning Standards.
  • Implement Conscious Discipline strategies to promote the social-emotional development of all children.
  • Design and facilitate health, wellness, and social-emotional enrichment initiatives for Bright Beginnings.
  • Organize quarterly parent engagement events for families of Bright Beginnings children.
  • Collaborate with fellow AmeriCorps members, volunteers, and staff to implement programs and track outcomes effectively.
  • Participate in designated AmeriCorps Days of Service and other approved service projects.
  • Attend meetings led by the National Service team and any relevant team meetings as directed.
  • Complete all required background checks as mandated.
Additional Responsibilities
  • In case of a disaster declaration, members may be called upon to assist in community response and recovery efforts.
  • Engage in community outreach activities to support the AmeriCorps Program, including recruitment and public relations initiatives.

This position does not duplicate the work of existing employees or volunteers and adheres to all AmeriCorps eligibility requirements.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be fully committed to the mission of Our House. A genuine enjoyment of working with children, a positive demeanor, and the ability to serve as a role model are essential.

Educational and Experience Requirements

A high school diploma or GED is required; a background in child development or relevant coursework is preferred.

Service Conditions

This role involves both indoor and outdoor activities and requires physical engagement with children aged 1-5.

Commitment

A commitment of 40 hours per week for a six-month term is required, totaling a minimum of 900 hours.

Evaluation

Members will participate in evaluations throughout their service and are required to submit hours bi-weekly and complete quarterly reflections.
