Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mental Health Practitioner to join our team at Schools (Government). As a key member of our wellbeing team, you will play a critical role in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement mental health prevention and promotion activities in schools, including contributing to whole-school health and wellbeing plans and building the capacity of teaching staff and school leadership to address student mental health and wellbeing.
  • Provide early intervention services, including short-term counselling, for individual students and groups identified as at-risk and/or experiencing mild to moderate mental health concerns.
  • Coordinate supports for students with complex needs, including working with regions, local mental health service providers, and other health professionals to engage further support as required.
  • Work collaboratively with schools to enhance mental health prevention and promotion across the school, contributing to policies and operational practices that guide the work of others.
  • Liaise with other department areas and external service providers to provide appropriate support to students.
  • Maintain professional competence and continued professional development, including attending professional development activities throughout the year.
  • Meet relevant policies and legislative requirements in relation to student health information, privacy, and consent.
Requirements
  • Individuals with the aptitude, experience, and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position.
  • Ability to work autonomously and with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with students, teachers, and other stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of mental health principles and practices.
  • Experience working in a school or educational setting.
