Muskingum University is in search of a dedicated Financial Aid Counselor to enhance their team. This position is essential in offering expert advice and assistance to students, their families, and potential enrollees regarding diverse financial aid options. The Financial Aid Counselor will be responsible for evaluating, processing, and adjusting financial aid packages for their assigned cohort while ensuring outstanding customer service to support the university's goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver thorough counseling to students and families concerning financial aid issues through multiple communication methods.
  • Act as a financial aid consultant for a specific group of students.
  • Disburse federal, state, and institutional grants and loans in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Assess financial aid appeals and requests for special circumstances.
  • Advise students on how to maintain satisfactory academic progress to qualify for aid.
  • Notify students of any changes in their awards and propose solutions to resolve issues.
  • Examine applications, rectify discrepancies, and solicit necessary documentation.
  • Assist with the processing of Federal Direct and Private Loans.
  • Manage Federal Student Aid data for the distribution and awarding of financial aid.
  • Encourage FAFSA submissions and promote financial aid awareness within the student body and the community.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to remain informed about industry standards and regulations.
  • Provide assistance to the Admissions Office and Graduate and Continuing Studies Offices as needed.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's degree is mandatory.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 and other relevant software applications.
  • Ability to comprehend and implement university policies and federal regulations.
  • Strong numerical skills for precise calculations.
