Summary

Role Summary
Reporting to the Accounting Support Manager, this role involves executing advanced accounting responsibilities while overseeing and mentoring junior accounting personnel within the USNH Financial Operations Center.

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience and/or certifications.
  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in accounting or finance; relevant degrees and certifications may substitute for experience.
  • Thorough understanding of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles.
  • Proficient in standard technology platforms (e.g., word processing, data entry, email).
  • Experience with automated accounting/financial systems.
  • Knowledge of standard auditing practices and financial reporting requirements.
  • Strong mathematical, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze financial data and documentation.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Willingness to receive constructive feedback and pursue continuous learning.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field or additional accounting/finance credentials (e.g., CPA) preferred.
  • Experience in public accounting is advantageous.
  • Prior supervisory experience in finance or accounting is preferred.
  • Experience in a shared service environment is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

Job Duties
  1. Execute advanced accounting functions including ledger maintenance, financial analysis, and fund reconciliation.
  2. Prepare complex bank reconciliations for multiple accounts, resolving discrepancies.
  3. Act as a technical expert in bank reconciliation processes.
  4. Supervise junior accounting staff, ensuring accuracy and compliance with policies.
  5. Analyze financial operations and develop reports for leadership and funding agencies.
  6. Prepare integrated financial reports and projections that influence budget development.
  7. Identify process improvement opportunities and recommend enhancements.
  8. Coordinate timely preparation of billings, cost reports, and financial statements.
  9. Ensure accurate recording of journal entries and maintain financial records.
  10. Direct budget, revenue, and expense corrections as needed.
  11. Monitor revenue and expenses, ensuring compliance with policies.
  12. Lead the development and maintenance of internal fiscal systems and procedures.
  13. Interact with auditors and direct auditing activities.
  14. Maintain knowledge of USNH accounting systems and standards.
  15. Advise on financial policies and provide training to institutional leaders.
  16. Perform additional duties as assigned.
