The Security Officer plays a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of the Georgetown University community.
Key Responsibilities- Maintains awareness and understanding of all security protocols and procedures.
- Inspects and reports security and safety of the area or building.
- Reports all deficiencies to the supervisor.
- Maintains consistent knowledge of security procedures and protocols.
- Recognizes unusual incidents or unwarranted intrusion and effects prompt and proper requests for assistance when required.
- Utilizes communication systems for reporting purposes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalency.
- At least 1 year of general work experience – preference for 1 year of security, law enforcement or military experience.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid driver's license with no violations in the last three years.
- Ability to pass Georgetown University's driver's certification.
- Ability to qualify for a Security Officer License in the District of Columbia.
- Successful completion of a written test, report writing test, drug test, physical examination by a medical doctor to University specifications, and extensive psychological testing.
- Successful completion of a post-offer comprehensive background investigation.
- Basic computer skills, including word processing – preference for additional administrative and clerical skills.
- Frequently required to move up to 25 pounds of weight and walk or stand with operation of controls.
- Occasionally tasked with moving items weighing up to 50 pounds of weight.
The Security Officer is designated as Essential under the University Personnel policy guidelines and therefore is subject to be on-call when necessary.
They must be willing and available to work extended, odd, or off hours to achieve the expectations and requirements of the Department – to include rotating tours of duty (day shifts, evening shifts, overnight shifts) with fluctuating days off.
