Job Summary

The Police Lieutenant is a key leadership position within the Georgetown University Police Department, responsible for overseeing all service functions, including Patrol, Support, and Special Services bureaus. This role requires a strong leader who can supervise, coordinate, and manage activities of police operations, as well as design and implement training and certification requirements for sworn and non-sworn personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with departmental operations, procedures, and directives.
  • Supervise and train subordinates on current orders and procedures.
  • Participate in decisions on employee welfare, evaluation, performance management, and logistical needs.
  • Inspect personnel to ensure compliance with orders and procedures.
Policing and Incident Management
  • Manage and investigate special events, training, complaints, crimes, accidents, and incidents.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and inspect them for thorough information.
  • Caution and apprehend persons behaving contrary to laws and University rules.
Community Relations and Partnerships
  • Maintain liaison with MPD, DCFEMS, GERMS, and other public safety agencies.
  • Implement emergency operations plans and coordinate emergency response with administrators and agencies.
  • Maintain partnerships with University students, faculty, staff, and community members to address public safety issues.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field.
  • At least 5 years of law enforcement experience, including 2 years in a supervisory role.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in critical incident response and notification procedures.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications equipment and emergency management.

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position is: $54,100.493.33. Compensation is determined by a number of factors, including the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
