Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pipefitting Superintendent to join our team at Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising the activities of the Pipefitting Department personnel and maximizing efficiency and productivity of supervisors and production workers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of the Pipefitting Department personnel to ensure efficient and effective production.
  • Maximize productivity and efficiency of supervisors and production workers.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and policies.
  • Resolve issues related to day-to-day operations.
  • Provide technical assistance and oversee the workforce in the Pipefitting Department.
  • Inspect piping for compliance with applicable plans and specifications.
  • Confer with Production/General Mgr. and other Superintendents to coordinate work schedules and prioritize work.
  • Monitor work performances and productivity.
  • Manage employees and plan ahead to ensure safe work practices.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED equivalence, plus five to seven years' previous shipyard experience. Three to five years supervisory experience is desired. The candidate must be able to manage a crew of individuals to get the job done efficiently, effectively, and safely. They will require working knowledge of all standard pipe craft formulas, materials, and drawings. They will also require working knowledge of equipment, work processes, and techniques used in measuring, fitting, and tack welding steel. Knowledge of ship terminology and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards is also required.

Skills and Attributes

The successful candidate will possess basic to intermediate Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook skills. They will be able to read and comprehend written, oral, or diagram form or plans. They will be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. They will also be able to read and understand blueprints. The candidate will be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors and employees. Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools is also required. The candidate will be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure. They will be able to read a tape measure and use a cutting torch. The ideal candidate will possess integrity, ethics, flexibility/adaptability, initiative, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, safety consciousness, and multi-tasking abilities.

Work Environment

The work environment will be a heavy industrial shipyard environment. The candidate may be exposed to the risk of electrical shock, moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, continual loud noise, and other hazards. Rigorous compliance with safety procedures, policies, and personal safety equipment requirements is mandatory.
