Position Overview:

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) provides specialized clinical knowledge in a specific nursing domain (e.g., pediatrics, oncology, adult medicine). This role is pivotal in establishing and maintaining quality benchmarks for nursing practices tailored to distinct patient demographics. The CNS is responsible for delivering advanced clinical education, offering consultation, engaging in research, and overseeing administrative functions.

Key Responsibilities:

Sets and evaluates care standards, recommending modifications in clinical practices. Collaborates with nursing personnel to assess the unique nursing requirements of patients and families, formulating care plans for complex, high-risk cases.Assesses the effectiveness of care interventions.Creates educational programs for patients and families, assisting nursing staff in executing these initiatives. Develops interdisciplinary care plans for intricate and high-risk patients. In partnership with healthcare team members, evaluates staff competencies and identifies educational needs.Designs and implements training programs to enhance staff knowledge and skills. Introduces innovative techniques based on advanced practice trends. May serve as a mentor to graduate healthcare students.Provides expert consultation to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to address the care needs of individuals or groups in both outpatient and inpatient environments.Recommends changes to care standards or practices based on personal or external research findings.Defines and applies best nursing practices. Participates in the recruitment process and contributes to performance evaluations concerning clinical competencies, offering coaching and guidance.Engages in quality assurance and improvement initiatives, establishing standards and assessing outcomes. Collects and analyzes data related to patient care results, trends, morbidity, and mortality.Utilizes KP Health Connect to assess care quality. Manages clinical operations through KP Health Connect, ensuring documentation accuracy and quality. Maintains role-specific competencies in KP Health Connect.Kaiser Permanente reserves the right to periodically review and adjust job descriptions and may alter positions from salaried to hourly status as necessary.

Additional Functions:

Clinical Nurse Specialist-NICU Basic Qualifications: Experience

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the relevant clinical specialty required. Education
Bachelor's degreeMaster's degree in a clinical nursing field or a related discipline such as psychology, public health, social work, education, health sciences, behavioral sciences, nutrition, or bioethics from an accredited master's/post-master's nursing program. License, Certification, Registration Clinical Nurse Specialist Certificate (California)
Registered Nurse License (California)
National Provider Identifier required at hire
Basic Life Support Certification
Additional Requirements:
Ability to work effectively in a Labor/Management Partnership environment. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist is preferred.ACLS or PALS Certification is preferred.
