Position Overview:

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) provides specialized clinical knowledge in a specific nursing domain (e.g., pediatrics, oncology, adult medicine). This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining quality benchmarks for nursing practices tailored to a distinct patient demographic. The CNS also plays a pivotal role in advanced clinical education, consultation, research, and administrative functions.

Key Responsibilities:

Sets and oversees care standards, recommending modifications to enhance clinical practices. Collaborates with nursing personnel to assess the age-specific nursing requirements of patients and formulates care plans for complex, high-risk cases.Assesses the effectiveness of care delivered.Creates educational programs for patients and families, supporting nursing staff in the execution of these programs. Develops interdisciplinary care plans for intricate and high-risk patients. In collaboration with healthcare team members, evaluates staff knowledge and identifies educational needs based on competencies.Designs and implements training initiatives to elevate the quality of staff expertise and skills. Introduces innovative techniques based on advanced practice trends. May act as a mentor to graduate healthcare students.Provides expert consultation to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to address the care needs of individuals or groups in both outpatient and inpatient environments.Recommends changes to care standards or practices informed by personal research or existing literature.Defines and enacts optimal nursing practices. Participates in the recruitment process and contributes to performance evaluations regarding clinical proficiency, offering coaching and guidance.Engages in quality assurance and improvement initiatives, establishing standards and evaluating outcomes. Collects and analyzes data related to patient care results, trends, morbidity, and mortality.Utilizes KP Health Connect to assess the quality of care provided. Manages clinical operations through KP Health Connect, ensuring the quality, appropriateness, and accuracy of documentation. Maintains role-specific competencies in KP Health Connect.Kaiser Permanente routinely reviews compensation for positions. Additional Responsibilities:

Clinical Nurse Specialist-NICU Basic Qualifications: Experience

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the relevant clinical specialty required. Education
Bachelor's degreeMaster's degree in a clinical nursing field or a related discipline, including but not limited to psychology, public health, social work, education, health sciences, behavioral sciences, nutrition, and bioethics from an accredited master's/post-master's nursing program.
