Job Summary

This role is responsible for conducting sonographic procedures on assigned patients through the use of ultrasound diagnostic equipment. The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of a supervisor/manager and a physician in the department, who is responsible for the use and interpretation of ultrasound procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct sonographic procedures on assigned patients using ultrasound diagnostic equipment.
  • Work under the direct supervision of a supervisor/manager and a physician in the department.
  • Ensure that equipment is constantly functional and ready for immediate use.
  • Maintain records and reports on equipment, procedures performed, and billing.
  • Document observations made during the procedure for final interpretation by the physician or other qualified medical professional.
  • Obtain pertinent diagnostic images for record documentation when presenting cases.
  • Ensure that ultrasound equipment & accessories are maintained and functioning.
  • Report problems to Lead Tech and supervisor.
  • Explain examination process to the patient and instruct and assist patient throughout the procedure.
  • Operate diagnostic ultrasound equipment, observe sound wave pattern produced, produce and process diagnostic images, and present completed sonograms to physician.
  • Participate in maintaining records for research cases.
  • Participate as needed in evaluation of new equipment for research or possible future use in department.
  • Perform a variety of sonographic procedures utilizing ultrasonic high frequency sound waves to detect abnormalities, including masses, abscesses, and stones.
  • Perform basic Doppler scans, including hepatic/portal veins, hepatic art, venous Doppler studies, renal transplant art/v. Doppler within allotted time frames.
  • Review patient medical history in chart information system. Reload prior exams for comparison. Utilize ancillary equipment appropriately (Kinetdx, PACS - Picture Archiving and Communication systems).
  • Spot check exams for required views and adequate demonstration of anatomy. Complete exam within required timeframe.
Requirements
  • Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardio Credentialing International (CCI).
  • Ability to apply judgment and make informed decisions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with widely diverse groups, including individuals at all levels both within and outside the organization and gain their cooperation.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to interpret physician instructions and patient medical and clinical records to determine type of ultrasonic procedure/test to be performed.
  • Ability to perform general abdominal, small parts, OB-GYN, and limited vascular sonography on varied patient population.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English effectively at a level appropriate for the safe and effective performance of the job.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and congenital/acquired pathology as they relate to the use and interpretation of ultrasound diagnostic procedures.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.
  • Knowledge of principles of the PACS network and/or other electronic image processing and image development systems.
  • Knowledge of principles of ultrasound physics, and the propagation of ultrasound through tissues.
  • Knowledge of safety principles and procedures related to ultrasound procedures and equipment.
  • Knowledge of ultrasound diagnostic procedures and equipment/instrumentation.

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $162,032.00 to $182,936.00
