Job Overview

The Embedded Systems Engineer Intern will work with a state-of-the-art R&D team in Boise to develop innovative solutions for the material handling industry. They will utilize the latest technologies to integrate robotics into complex applications, including R&D and prototype development to successfully bring new products to market.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in design and requirements reviews
  • Contribute to the development of functional specification documents
  • Assist with PCB hardware design, simulation, and testing
  • Assist with specifying and selecting parts, evaluating their operation, and integrating them into the hardware design
  • Write test code to ensure firmware functionality meets design specifications
  • Participate in code reviews
  • Participate in embedded systems architecture and schematic reviews
  • Track projects and report progress and issues to the engineering manager
  • Learn industry standards, trends, and new research
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to assist in the design or development of systems
  • Assist with delivering a successful embedded systems project with regards to customer satisfaction, schedule, time, and budget
  • Assist in resolving engineering issues as they arise by working closely with the engineering team, vendors, and the shop
  • Ensure we meet and exceed our customer's expectations through superior design and implementation
  • Complete all administrative tasks/paperwork in a timely manner
  • Work with management to prioritize projects on a macro level; ability to prioritize individual tasks on your own
Preferred Skills and Required Qualifications
  • Student currently working towards a bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, or related field
  • Understanding of basic electrical theory and circuit design
  • Proficient in C/C++, C#, Python, and other common development languages
  • Comfortable working in a lean agile team
  • Ability to analyze engineering problems and develop creative solutions
  • Excellent organization and prioritization of daily tasks and projects
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining progress toward completing overall goal
  • Ability to write thorough documentation for new software and processes
  • Knowledge of microcontrollers, PLCs, industrial robots, safety-rated equipment, encoders, networking, circuits, AC/DC motors, and motor controllers
  • Microcontroller firmware experience
  • Real-Time Operating System (RTOS)
  • Aptitude for hands-on electrical and mechanical troubleshooting
  • Must be eligible to work in the USA long term without sponsorship
