Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Child Life Therapist to coordinate therapeutic and recreational therapy programs for pediatric patients at the University of New Mexico - Hospitals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in child development and experience working with children and families in a hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement developmentally appropriate educational and recreational activities for patients, ensuring their physical, cognitive, and emotional needs are met.
  • Provide direction for playroom sessions, ensuring the social, physical, cognitive, and emotional needs of patients are met.
  • Collaborate with hospital professionals to promote the physical and psychological well-being of pediatric patients.
  • Ensure the safety, maintenance, and cleanliness of assigned activity areas.
  • Supervise playroom staff and volunteers, providing orientation and training as needed.
  • Assist with special events and provide assistance with distributing gifts and donations.
  • Promote the continued process of growth and development for children and their families.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and workshops.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • 1 year of directly related experience.
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS certification.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The working conditions include exposure to chemicals and biohazardous materials.
