Job Summary

The Radiation Therapist will play a vital role in the Radiation Oncology clinical location, ensuring seamless patient flow and delivering high-quality care. This position requires a strong understanding of radiation therapy procedures and equipment operation, as well as excellent interpersonal and analytical skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians in treating patients with prescribed doses of ionizing radiation, following established procedures.
  • Prepare treatment rooms, explain procedures to patients, position patients, and administer treatments.
  • Monitor patients during therapy sessions to ensure comfort and observe changes in condition.
  • Simulate patient treatment according to the treatment plan and deliver prescribed doses of ionizing radiation.
  • Design and construct custom treatment devices for individual patients.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
Requirements
  • Current Radiation Therapy license issued by IEMA Department of Nuclear Safety and registry or registry eligible with ARRT within 6 months of hire.
  • 2-year training program in Radiation Therapy.
  • Knowledge of radiation therapy procedures and equipment operation, and of physics and patient care techniques at a level acquired through an approved program in radiation therapy technology.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, allied health personnel, and other Medical Center personnel.
  • Analytical skills necessary to provide accurate care instructions to patients, interpret physicians' prescriptions for treatment course, and effectively duplicate treatment plan.
