The Safety Operations Manager will lead the development and continuous enhancement of our safety culture across the organization, with a particular emphasis on our Drilling, Excavating, and other field operations. This role will report directly to the COO and collaborate closely with both the HR and Operations teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, guide, and oversee all safety policies and programs to ensure comprehensive operational procedures that minimize risks and enhance safety focus.
- Manage the safety team to create a thorough and thoughtful safety program that addresses all potential hazards associated with Dandelion's operations.
- Collaborate with training departments to design educational programs that support safety initiatives, ensuring all personnel receive necessary training to perform their duties safely and effectively.
- Ensure that safety and operations personnel conduct regular, organized site visits to job locations and warehouses.
- Work with the Safety Team to provide insights on safety and risk audits, further fostering a culture that prioritizes safety.
- Build strong relationships with subcontractors to learn from their best practices and align them with our safety objectives, enhancing our industry reputation for safety.
- Analyze current and future operations to proactively identify hazards and implement solutions to protect, eliminate, or mitigate risks.
- Streamline incident reporting procedures in collaboration with stakeholders to ensure timely and consistent reporting that supports prevention efforts.
- Develop corrective action protocols with necessary stakeholders to reinforce our safety mission.
- Identify and recommend resources required by Risk and Safety to uphold our safety culture and protect personnel and property.
- Oversee all administrative aspects related to Fleet Coverage, Property/Casualty, Executive Risks, and other necessary insurance to support business needs and growth.
- Manage the investigation of claims filed by employees and clients, ensuring proper reporting to designated insurance carriers or third-party claims administrators.
- Maintain effective communication and analysis of each assigned claim throughout the claims process until resolution, working with insurance to manage claims reserves effectively.
- Act as the primary contact for communication with insurance carriers and third-party administrators, ensuring quality assurance on vendor services provided to the company and its clients.
- Review and obtain stakeholder approval for reserve changes, litigation referrals, awards, and payments.
- Collaborate with operations, finance, human resources, fleet management, and upper management to ensure alignment on priorities and direction.
- Manage communications related to insurance renewals, expirations, or stakeholder meetings as necessary.
- Provide risk analysis to stakeholders to support profitability objectives.
Required Qualifications:
- OSHA 30 Certification with practical knowledge of OSHA regulations applicable to the construction industry.
- Familiarity with Construction Safety Principles, including the safe operation of heavy equipment such as excavators, drill rigs, skid steers, or cranes.
- Understanding of insurance and claims processes related to workplace injuries and property damage.
- Experience in cultivating and enhancing safety culture within a construction or similar organization.
- Proven ability to train others on technical safety topics and processes to mitigate risks to employees and the organization.
- Experience in establishing safety committees and scalable safety programs in a rapidly growing organization.
- Skilled in identifying potential hazards and recommending corrective actions.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience as a manager who adopts a coaching approach rather than a policing mentality towards safety and property protection.
Desired Qualifications:
- OSHA 500 or higher certification.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment with competing priorities.
- Knowledge of regulations surrounding drilling health and safety.
- A sense of humor is a valuable asset.
