Job Summary

The Cardiac Monitor Technician is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for monitoring cardiac rhythms and alerting nursing staff to any changes. This role requires strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor cardiac rhythms and alert nursing staff to any changes or abnormalities.
  • Document rhythm interpretations and maintain accurate records.
  • Coordinate unit functions to ensure safe and smooth operations.
  • Attend required training and demonstrate ongoing competency in cardiac rhythm interpretation.
  • Evaluate telemetry patients and collect data on rhythm and changes.
  • Obtain rhythm strips at admission, defined intervals, and during dysrhythmias.
  • Notify RN of all changes in rhythm immediately.
  • Adhere to cardiac monitor responsibilities and ensure continuous observation.
  • Recognize equipment malfunctions and take immediate action.
  • Clean monitors and lead wires after each patient use.
  • Summarize rhythm tracings and record outcomes of clinical review.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • 1 year of Patient Care Assistant/Unit Secretary (PCA/US) or LPN experience preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

  • Must be able to tolerate prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Must be able to reach reasonable distances in any direction.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, sit, stoop, and lift.
  • Must be able to run in an emergency.
  • Must be able to move fingers in a coordinated manner and must be able to feel and perceive temperature, texture, shape, and size with fingertips.
  • Must be able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.
  • Must possess stamina to work prolonged shifts.
  • Physical presence onsite is essential.
  • Must possess perceptual speed to quickly recognize changes in monitor patterns.
  • Must be able to make precise coordinated movements of hands and fingers to use the electronic measuring system.
