Position Overview

The Nursing Administrative Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing and enhancing patient care operations within the healthcare facility. This individual is expected to exhibit extensive expertise in managing patient care functions during the absence of senior management, including Vice Presidents, Directors, and Department Managers. This leadership position is vital for fostering effective communication, optimizing resource management, and ensuring seamless patient placement and care across various departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acts as the representative of hospital administration in their absence, ensuring a supportive environment that addresses patient and family needs for safety, comfort, education, and assistance. Collaborates with Patient Representatives, Risk Management, Employee Health, and Nursing Leaders as necessary.
  • Works closely with unit charge nurses and physicians to facilitate patient admissions and transfers, keeping on-call administrators informed of any resolved or ongoing issues.
  • Provides guidance to other departments in the absence of their managers to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care, while incorporating the needs and concerns of patients, staff, and physicians into decision-making processes.
  • Serves as a resource and mentor for hospital staff, offering insights into policies and procedures, and directing them to available resources and equipment.
  • Identifies and addresses issues affecting patient care throughout the facility, actively participating in the resolution of systemic challenges and responding to concerns from physicians and staff.
  • Manages situations in alignment with hospital policies and nursing standards, responding to emergency situations and acting as a resource for team members.
  • Oversees daily staffing allocations, collaborating with unit charge nurses to assess staffing needs based on patient care requirements and skill competencies.
  • Facilitates patient placement by utilizing established guidelines to determine the most suitable unit based on patient needs and available resources.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned to support the operational efficiency of the hospital.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or Vocational degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an acute care environment, including at least 1 year in a charge nurse or similar capacity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • At least 2 years of management or leadership experience.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Current Registered Nurse license as required by the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required by the end of orientation.
  • Additional certifications may be required based on specific location and role.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform medium work, including lifting weights up to 32 lbs occasionally and up to 25 lbs frequently.
