Job Summary:

The University of Kansas Medical Center seeks a skilled Clinical Veterinarian to provide veterinary care to small and large laboratory animals, and veterinary consultation to the research community regarding laboratory animal models and diseases. The successful candidate will also provide professional and technical support in the development of new research projects.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Clinical Care: Provide clinical, surgical, and post-surgical care for all species housed in the vivarium, reporting to the Attending Veterinarian and assisting the veterinary technical staff in diagnosis and management of veterinary clinical cases.

2. Regulatory Compliance: Act as part of the LAR Management Team, assisting the Director of Veterinary Medicine in maintaining and developing departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and institutional policies, and participating in meetings of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.

3. Technical Support: Manage assigned external and internal animal user projects, including record maintenance and veterinary service, and coordinate and communicate with all areas of the LAR when preparing surgery and animal treatment schedules.

4. Training and Development: Assist in technical staff education relative to American Association of Accreditation for Lab Animal Science (AAALAS) certification and SOPs, and assist with Animal User Training Program development and administration.

5. Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned, including participating in night, weekend, and holiday on-call service, and wearing personal protective equipment, including a respirator.

Requirements:

1. Education: Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.
2. Skills: Eligible for Kansas licensure within the first year of employment, customer-oriented attitude, ability to multitask, and values teamwork and continuing education.
