Position Overview
We are in search of a Senior Electrical Transmission Engineer who will lead a collaborative and dynamic team in a fast-paced setting, tackling complex issues related to electric transmission.
The ideal candidate will act as a Lead Engineer and Project Manager on electric transmission line design initiatives, encompassing both overhead and underground systems for major utilities across the nation, as well as regional providers.
This role requires the application of NESC, ASCE, ACI, NEC, and other relevant standards in the engineering and design of a variety of capital and maintenance projects ranging from 34.5 kV to 500 kV.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will oversee a team of engineers engaged in engineering analyses, PLS-CADD modeling, structural loading assessments, design of structural framing and hardware assemblies, drafting plans and specifications, and preparing bills of materials and procurement documents throughout project planning, engineering, environmental considerations, permitting, and construction management phases.

Job Functions
- Oversee multiple design teams concurrently executing various projects for diverse clients.
- Develop engineering talent through training, coaching, and mentorship.
- Supervise staff by approving timesheets and managing the annual performance review process.
- Actively participate as a member of the leadership team within the Transmission Line Section.
- Prepare responses to RFPs, RFIs, and RFQs from clients for new projects, including proposal creation and scope definition.
- Embrace a growth mindset to encourage creative problem-solving for our clients' most intricate challenges.
- Promote continuous improvement to streamline processes and tools that enhance departmental technical resources through innovation and automation.
- Delegate tasks to staff, forecast and plan their future workload, and conduct recruitment activities to support ambitious growth objectives.
- Drive the quality control process for the execution team to ensure the highest quality in all deliverables.
- Engage with clients to maximize relationships, facilitate business development growth, and foster long-term partnerships.
- Manage the health of the project portfolio through proactive project management, tracking scope, schedules, and budgets with support from Leidos' Project Management Office.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering; preference for Civil Engineering.
10+ years of relevant experience in electric utility transmission system design with a Bachelor's degree, or 8+ years with a Master's degree.
Proficiency in PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
Demonstrated outstanding communication skills to serve as the primary contact for existing and prospective clients.
Business acumen with a proven track record of meeting key project performance metrics.
Willingness to work onsite or at client offices as needed; some travel may be required.
A passion for developing staff through mentorship.
Desired Experience:
2+ years of supervisory experience.
M.S. degree in Structural Engineering.
Experience with TOWER.
EIT or PE certification.
Familiarity with LPILE or FAD, Mathcad, AutoCAD or MicroStation, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is advantageous.

As this position involves supervisory responsibilities, candidates are expected to work in-person on a full-time or hybrid schedule.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $87,000 - $157,450.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level serves as a general guideline and is not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreements, or other laws.
