Job SummaryWe are looking for a dedicated and compassionate individual to provide psychiatric care to adult, adolescent, and child patients. As a Mental Health Specialist, you will be responsible for planning and implementing milieu treatment, considering patient needs and therapeutic goals.
Key Responsibilities- Facilitate and Provide Psychiatric Care: Collaborate with the Charge Nurse to determine a milieu treatment approach, function as an active member of the multidisciplinary team, administer an initial psychological assessment, and provide consistent individual counseling focused on treatment goals during hospitalization.
- Collaborate with Other Staff Members: Work with other unit staff in assessing and evaluating patient's mental status, initiate and maintain a therapeutic relationship with patients, collaborate in the diagnosis and treatment of patients, and share information and participate in the formulation of treatment plans.
- Provide Supportive Care: Participate in conversation, recreational activities, and basic living activities, assist patients with bathing, eating, and other daily living activities, set limits, confront counterproductive activities and behavior, and reassure and orient patients.
- Record and Document Patient Information: Record all appropriate information on patient charts, prepare regular reports describing each patient's mental status and functioning, and report and document overt, covert, verbal, and non-verbal communications by patients.
- Support and Educate Family Members: Provide support and education to family members and significant others regarding the patient's status, work with representatives of outside agencies in obtaining or disseminating information on individual patients, and participate in discharge planning and referral, if necessary.
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in psychology or a related field preferred, Bilingual preferred (Spanish/English), BLS required.
- Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of psychiatric care, therapeutic techniques, and patient assessment, ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and strong communication and interpersonal skills.
